It is with joy and celebration that we announce a new curate has been called to serve at St. Luke's!
Recognizing that our congregations differ widely in size, resources, and context, the Diocese of Northern California last year announced a new three-year pilot program to ensure access to regular clergy ministry for smaller churches, support the growth of programming in larger churches, and develop the ministry of new priests in our diocese.
St. Luke's has partnerned with St. Martin's, Davis in this effort, and we are blessed to be able to call Maggie Rutherford to serve in our congregations. Maggie will begin her ministry with both churches as a transitional deacon for six months before her ordination to the priesthood. After this ordination, she will serve as the Priest-in-Charge at St. Luke's and as an Assistant Priest at St. Martin's.
Maggie Rutherford grew up in the Bay Area attending Christ Episcopal Church, Alameda and was very involved in both parish and diocesan life. She completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology and women’s studies at Chico State before joining the year round staff at St. Dorothy’s Rest filling a wide range of roles. St. Dorothy’s was the perfect place for Maggie to begin her formal discernment process as it was where she first felt a call to ordained ministry while working as a camp counselor. In 2022 Maggie joined the staff of Galilee Episcopal Camp in Lake Tahoe as their Program Director. In the fall of 2023 Maggie then traveled east to begin seminary at Berkeley Divinity School at Yale where she has just graduated with a Master of Divinity and a Certificate in Anglican Studies. In her free time Maggie loves to read, knit, spend quality time with friends, play with her cats, and research new restaurants to try with her fiancé Christopher. Maggie is very excited to join both St. Martin’s and St. Luke’s and begin getting to know each of you!
Please join us in giving a warm and loving welcome to Maggie and Christopher as they become part of our St. Luke's family!
